September 2006

As I mentioned in last month's letter, my parents were here for a visit, but had to leave on September 10. Of course as luck would have it that was the day that my two year long project at work went into production. So I already did my complaining about this last month, but since it was so disappointing to not be able to spend more time with them because of WORK, I thought I would mention it again. Work this month was very busy and I am very glad the month is over.

This month we had a really nice couple from California stay with us who are mushroom farmers. Apparently, the mushroom farming community is small and everyone knows everyone else. They knew Todd's cousins from Pennsylvania that grow mushrooms. When Todd took them on the tour of the farm, Norman told Todd the names of all the different mushrooms that we have growing here. I don't think any of them are edible, but I am sure Buddy and Louie have tried a few. Next, we had Dan and Sarah from Seattle. They were a cool, younger couple who were on the go quite a bit. We did visit with them some and they really like the dogs. They missed their dogs and found Buddy and Louie fun.

Todd is going strong on coffee picking. We will definitely top the number of pounds of cherry that we picked last year. In fact, Todd is running out of room on his coffee drying deck. I finally planted my cocoa plants from my Tae Kwon Do instructor. I put them under an avocado tree since they like shade and they are also close enough to the house to connect up a sprinkler on a timer. We had a bit of a papaya lull. They ripen pretty much year round, but this month we were scrambling to find fruit to give to the guests. I don't really have much to say this month mostly because I did most of my parents' visit last month and I was so busy with work that I don't think I did much else. I know Todd has been working hard on the farm. We did miss the farm fair this year. It was the weekend my parents left and it just didn't fit into the schedule. Maybe we can go next year.

Happy Birthday to Todd's grandmother, Susan and also to his mom, Sharon. Happy Anniversary to Todd's parents.
