We are having a baby! We are very excited. Some people seemed a little shocked when we told them (including my parents). I guess some people had assumed we weren't ever going to have kids. We are having a girl and she is due May 4. The first three months were very unpleasant. I had more afternoon, evening and night sickness than morning sickness. I am happy to be in the second trimester. Todd has been wonderfully supportive, loving and understanding of all of my odd behavior. My mind and body are not my own anymore. I haven't sent Todd out for any emergency snacks yet. I have still been able to go to my aerobic kickboxing class, Tae Kwon Do (although I don't spar anymore), yoga and belly dancing classes. I can't bend like I used to due to my growing belly. I could also do without this immediate need to pee so often. I read that was supposed to let up in the second trimester. We had another earthquake. This time on Thanksgiving and it was a 5.0 (I think). It was in the morning and Todd was not home. Buddy was upset again, but didn't shake for half an hour after like he did in October. Louie didn't even notice the earth moving under his paws. I ran over to check on our quests. We had people in both apartments that never experienced an earthquake before. They were fine and we didn't have any damage. We had all of our buildings fumigated at the beginning of the month. The fumigators come with huge tarps and enclose the entire building. We sent some pictures to friends that live on the mainland where "tenting" is not very common and they said it looked like the circus was at our house. The tarps were striped dark and light blue, so it was rather festive looking. Our friends Bob and Beryl let us stay at their farm while we were being tented. I was able to take my laptop and use their internet connection so I was able to still work and not lose the time. I did start late on the one day since I took Buddy and Louie to Paws University to be boarded for the night. It felt like the first day of kindergarten. All the dogs were lined up at the fence checking out the new "kids" and Buddy and Louie were terrified. They absolutely did not want to go in. I felt so bad. The lady attending the dogs said that it would be best if I left so they could get adjusted. Well they did adjust and had a fun time. I of course made sure that they were allowed to sleep together in the same kennel. The other night it was a little chilly (like 62 or something) and I asked Todd if the dogs needed a blanket on the lanai. They are true Hawaiian dogs! They are total wimps. Louie shivers after he comes out of the ocean and it could be in the 80s. Todd picked them up from boarding and he was the hero. They were so excited to see him. Sure, I am the mean one who takes them there and he is the good guy who picks them up. We had guests this month. We had a really nice family from Wisconsin in the garden apartment and also a nice couple with their new baby girl from Washington state. They all had a good time. We got an email from the Wisconsin family. They arrived at home to 13 inches of snow. They wished they stayed in Hawaii. We celebrated our second year in Hawaii on November 2. Time is flying by. Happy Birthday to Todd's dad, Joe. |
