January 2008 |
Josephine woke up on her belly for the first time on January first. She even slept the whole night a few times in this month. Unfortunately, she was sick a couple times this month too. We don't know why but she threw up a few times one day and then seemed fine later in the night. Her doctor is so great. Todd always ends up calling her at home on a Friday night. It never seems to fail that Josephine has some problem after normal doctor hours. She said that there were some viruses going around so maybe that is what Josephine had. Then the next week, I took her to the doctor for what we initially thought were bug bites. It turned out she had staph infection and needed antibiotics. Poor baby did not like taking her disgustingly sweet pink medicine. It smelled just terrible. I imagine it didn't taste any better. On a brighter note, Josephine drank from her sippy cup for the first time this month. Like most things she does for the first time, she excels at it. However, when we tried the cup again, she was more interested in looking at the bottom of the cup than drinking from it. The reverend at our church said a prayer for Josephine. We had Josephine baptized in Pennsylvania, so it was very kind of Carol to give our baby a blessing at our church. In true style, Josephine waved to everyone while Carol said the blessing. Of course once our baby starts to sleep, she also starts teething in full force. We took Josephine to Ke'ei Beach and 2 step. She fell asleep in my lap for at least an hour when we were at 2 step. It was so nice. She hasn't napped at the beach since she was just a few weeks old. I bought Josephine her first comb and brush since she now has enough hair to actually need brushing. Josephine stayed at Aunty Beryl's house for a few hours by herself for the first time while Todd took care of his houses and pools. Josephine was pretty fussy, but lucky for all of us it didn't bother Beryl too much. However Bob called to ask when I was coming to pick her up. Todd's wrestling team is doing well. They have tournaments every Saturday at a different school around the island and practice everyday. I took Josephine to the tournaments on this side of the island. The yelling would make her cry so we would never stay too long, but Daddy appreciated the visits. It is really hard to make it all work with my job, Todd babysitting, the rental, the farm, Todd's business and wrestling. I haven't gone back to Tae Kwon Do yet, but I will hopefully when wrestling is over. I get to maybe one yoga class a week. I know I could practice yoga at home and really should, but there always is something else that takes my attention or I let take my attention. That is why going to class is good for me. Also, I need to get off the farm! I can go a couple days without going anywhere and it starts to make me feel trapped and stir-crazy. I love being able to work from home and I also love our home and farm, but it is necessary to get out and see the world or at least Wal-Mart every once in awhile. Joe came back for this month as he promised. He and Todd pruned six of our large mango trees and planted over a hundred baby coffee trees. They also put in drip irrigation for the baby trees. They were two very busy farmers this month. Joe also cut all the grass so the farm looked great. We didn't have much of a dry season this year so there was no time when the grass stopped growing. We were sad to see Joe leave but we had a fun farewell cookout and said that he would always have a place to stay if he wanted to return. We wish him well in North Carolina. It is not as bad a Pennsylvania in the winter, but they still get ice in NC so it does get cold. BRRRR. We had a very nice family stay with us this month. They had a little girl who slept in one of Josephine's pack and plays. I thought there was no way she would fit, but her mom sent us the cutest picture of her all curled up in the pack and play asleep. I guess little kids just like puppies love to be all curled up to sleep. Friends of ours stayed with us several months back and gave us a gift certificate to a new restaurant in Captain Cook called Mi’s. It is an Italian place in a tiny shopping center next to a mini-mart and a thrift store. I heard is was nice and good food, but I never thought we would need reservations at 5:00 pm on a Wednesday. Well, we showed up and the place is empty except for one couple and a foursome that came in the door after us. The hostess says to us that she doesn’t have a place for us! But lucky for us, she shoved us in the back next to the bathroom. I guess it was because the place was so crowded and we had a baby. Josephine was excellent. She babbled a little but was not loud at all. Todd liked his pizza and I didn’t care too much for my ravioli. I thought the sauce tasted like fish. We split a banana and ice cream dessert that was delicious. I would try it again and see if I like the pizza. We also tried the pizza from Donkey Balls Coffee Shop (I know great name) this month. They opened up in the deserted building next to Patel’s. They have coffees, some desserts, internet access and ice cream. The pizza was good, but too expensive for how small it was. Todd could have easily eaten the whole thing himself. It turned out that the owners are the parents of one of his wrestlers. It is really a small island. Happy Birthday to our niece, Jessica. She is officially a teenager although, she has been a teenager in spirit for a long time already. Bless her mom for having sleep over party for teenagers. |
