Well, like most plans, our plans are constantly changing. I haven't uploaded any new pictures of the apartment or pictures of the other progress we have made around the farm. I didn't get to paint the apartment master bedroom yet. Todd installed a new kitchen faucet in the apartment as well as installed water shut off valves to safely turn off the water for our apartment without affecting the water for the guest apartment. The shut off valve plumbing was a real challenge, but Todd did it! He continues to work on remodeling our shower that is a huge undertaking. It just doesn't seem like a weekend if we don't spend at least 2 hours in Lowes. The good news is that we are starting to know the people that work there. In the main house, Todd has re-hung some of the teak folding doors. He has also replaced the rusted hinges with new brass hinges. He installed a ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms. We plan to put ceiling fans in the other rooms as well. The macadamia tree clean up is on going. We are getting good papayas still. The mango trees are beginning to show their fruit. We are going to have tons of mangos. The trees are enormous and they are covered with small mangos and or the flowers that will become mangos. The pompegranates are ripening. They are delicious, but are an effort to eat. We had our first trip to a Hawaiian hospital. It was for Todd of course. During the shower remodel, he cut his hand and had to get 11 stitches across the middle three fingers of his right hand. The stitches are out now. We are going about 2 weeks at a time without rain, but we are in the dry season. The coffee trees have already flowered once. They smell fantastic. To me they are a mix of citrus and jasmine. Todd has started pruning and fertilizing, but the shower remodel has taken him away from it. Finally, our stuff arrived. Now we have lots of stuff and no place to store it. I have been trying to clean up and put some things away, but it is a challenge in an apartment with one small closet. We have way more clothes than we need. We joined the Kona Coffee Council and attended our first meeting. We are signed up for a coffee pruning field day in February. I am looking forward to meeting other farmers and seeing someone else's farm up close. Once again we are very lucky to have had wonderful guests. This month we have had guests in the main house from North Carolina and guests in the apartment from Seattle. Mahalo to Shirley and Bernard for all of your patience with our remodeling and the arrival of our shipment. Happy Birthday to our niece, Jessica! We miss you and hope you have a terrific birthday. |
