August 2007

Just 3 months old and our baby is already a couch potato. Well, she isn't really, but she already loves the TV when it is playing one of her Baby Einstein dvds. I can't believe how much she loves those movies. Todd thinks the dvd is a miracle because when I go to yoga or Tae Kwon Do class in the evening, Josephine gets very fussy. Sometimes she refuses to take the bottle from Todd or she drinks but still cries. He put in the dvd when I was at yoga and she smiled, laughed and was completely entertained.

Todd had his hernia surgery on August 3. He did great, but we are both of the opinion that hernia surgery, especially for two hernias should not be outpatient. Todd could not walk since he could not feel his one leg. He fell over a few times at home. He was in severe pain and for Todd to admit that and to look as bad as he did, I knew this was a very big deal. He is supposed to not lift anything over 20 pounds for 6 weeks. We are in the midst of an early and fast coffee season so being out of commission is going to be tough. The day after Todd's surgery, I picked coffee with Joe and Jodi. I brought Josephine out in her running stroller to the coffee orchard. (I don't run, but the big wheeled stroller is a must for driving over the rocks on our farm.) It was interesting picking coffee and then sitting down in the field under a tree to feed the baby. I didn't keep her out too long since it was hot. Taking her in was more work, since Todd could not pick her up. Everytime she needed to be changed or moved I would get called on my cell. I'd come in from picking and take care of the baby and or Todd depending on what was needed.

Josephine's firsts this month: We took Daddy to the ER the Sunday after surgery to make sure he was ok. She took a toy and held it for Mommy. Daddy said this has been happening with him. She sat in her Bebe Pod (also called Bumbo) chair. Josie leaned a little in the chair but still enjoyed sitting up and the freedom of not being in someone's lap. We were supposed to have her first hurricaine (Flossie) on August 14 but it ended up being a flop. However, we had an amazing sunset that night. Josephine will help pull herself up from lying down if you hold her hands. She had her first dinner at Little Caesar's (sadly this is about the best pizza you can get here). Todd and I had pizza while Josephine had her usual. On August 13, we had Josephine's first earthquake which was a 5.6. I'd say our baby had a full month: from Daddy's surgery to coffee picking to natural disasters and pizza.

Our only guests this month were a couple from Massachusettes and their two children. Hopefully, our guest stays pick up soon. I might have to get Josephine a job!

Happy 4 month birthday to Josephine! Happy 41st Wedding Anniversary to my parents.
