April 2007 |
May 4th is getting closer, thank goodness. I don't sleep soundly through the night anymore. I don't know how Todd has survived like this for years. He rarely sleeps an entire night. I feel good. Sometimes my low back will hurt or I will be tired. Todd told me that a pregnant woman has 40% more blood circulating so that could be why walking up even slight hills feels like a challenge. I went to a prenatal yoga class at the beginning of this month. It was nice to talk to other moms to be who practice yoga. The yoga instructor and the midwife that taught the class are both pregnant so that made it all the more fun. We were all in the same boat. We did yoga, ate snacks and made an art project for our babies. We had Todd's wrestling banquet, well it was actually more of a cook out at one of the wrestler's grandmother's house. I took chocolate chip cookies which I thought would get eaten rather quickly. However, the bag of chips I bought was organic so the recipe called for oatmeal and I didn't have the regular Toll House recipe. Therefore, the kids thought they were "healthy" cookies and they were barely touched. They had the full amount of butter and sugar, but they just had oatmeal. These kids will eat opihi which are like sea slugs, but put oatmeal in a chocolate chip cookie and it is like poison. It wasn't a big deal, I just thought it was funny. Todd who is a chocolate chip cookie lover, tried them and said they were good. The night was nice, but I was tired by the time we got home. The grandma of the house came over to me when I was looking to select a dessert. I lifted the tin foil off the top of a container and asked her what it was. She told me it was haole food. I thought that is good since I am a haole. It was an apple crisp and it happened to be made by a Japanese wrestler mom. Anyway, the grandma would not let me go until she went inside her house and brought me out her own vanilla ice-cream for me to put with the apple crisp. We went to Bob and Beryl's house for Easter dinner. Unfortunately, we also had guests arriving on Easter so Todd had to leave early to go and meet them. It was quite an interesting group of people. Bob and Beryl have an wide variety of friends. Parties at their house are never dull. Jodi had gone nuts baking again and made a bunch of extremely tasty desserts. She also made brownies for Todd's birthday which was Monday April 9. We sang to Todd and he had to leave. I stayed since it was time for dessert and I am a very pregnant chick. Dessert was the best part of the dinner. I have been a little consumed with being pregnant so I didn't really have any big plans for Todd's birthday. We also had birth class on that night so we weren't going to go out. I asked what he wanted and he said nothing that growing his baby was enough. What a sweetheart. I need to remember those moments when he is driving me crazy and since I am pregnant I need to write things down to remember them. Besides our Easter guests, we had guest from England arrive this month. They are tree farmers. They ended up arriving earlier than they said they would. I was taking a nap and Todd was not home. I couldn't find the dog leashes so they got the royal welcome by Buddy and Louie. The dogs need to do this new people "dance." They need to show off that they are really dogs since most of the time they think they are humans. They like to sit in chairs and sleep on the couch. We also had a couple stay with us for a few days at the end of the month. The night that they arrived, we went to a breastfeeding class at the hospital. Todd was worried that it was only for the moms, but it turned out that almost every woman's husband was there. The class was good, but I thought the lactation specialist that taught the class was a bit abrasive. She asked us to write down our breastfeeding questions at the beginning of the class. She gave her talk and then at the end she went through the questions to answer them. Of course many of the questions were answered during her presentation and she was annoyed when she read those questions. Well, hello genius when you ask for questions at the start there is a good chance that you might cover that question during the class. Maybe she is better one on one. No one breastfed during the class since it was all just expectant parents. Todd was disappointed. We did get to practice the different holds using babies she passed around. They baby we were given was 7 pounds. Man that baby felt heavy and its head looked really big! The doctor has been estimating our daughter to be 7 or 7.5 pounds. I think she will be 6 pounds and some ounces, but who knows. There were two days this month that I didn't want to have the baby, April Fool's Day and April 14 since I was getting my haircut. Todd told me that many women go into labor at the hairsalon because they are trying to squeeze in that last haircut. I made it out of the salon with a haircut and I didn't go into labor. Todd's parents arrived on April 16 which was the last night of our birth class. He was all flustered because their flight was delayed and there was no way we could pick them up, drive home and get back out near the airport in time for the class. I suggested that he drive the truck to the airport and I drive my Jeep. We meet the parents and they could then drive themselves home in my Jeep. Todd doesn't ever want me in his truck because the transmission slips and there are no airbags and it is a total MESS. He had to spend the afternoon cleaning it so I could ride to birth class in it. It all worked out fine. Joe and Sharon arrived safely and were in great spirits for just having traveled for such a long time. Todd and I made it to birth class on time and even had time to go to get pizza for dinner. I can always calm my honey down by feeding him pizza. We had a scare on the 18th. I slept well which is strange and I didn't feel the baby move in the morning. Todd and I both pushed on her and I tried all sorts of gymnastics to get her to move. Rather than take a chance, we went to the hospital. I was connected to a fetal monitor and it showed she was just fine. We had our appointment with Dr. Brown later that day, but we didn't want to risk waiting. I didn't know that if you don't feel the baby moving that you should eat, drink and lie down. Gosh that could have saved us the $400 that they charged us for a 2 hour visit. It doesn't matter how much it cost since it gave us peace of mind and we saw that she was fine. At our doctor visit later that day, we found out that she had dropped down into my pelvis which is why she is moving less. She is getting ready and we are trying to as well. Todd asked Dr. Brown if she was going to be born in the next three days. He gave us a strange look and said something about getting rich in politics if he could make predictions like that. Todd wanted to know if he could go deep sea fishing. Dr. Brown said, for three days? No, Todd just needed a window of several days for planning. The moment we left the office, he was on the phone and planned the trip for the next day. He must have called me 10 times from the boat asking if I was having the baby. He still had a great time because he almost caught his first marlin. He said it was the first fish that ever scared him. I guess that giant spear on the end of its face may have something to do with that. They estimated the fish to be 100 to 150 pounds, but like they say it was just a fish story. We met with our pediatrician, Dr. Derieg. She was really nice. She answered all of our questions and didn't make us feel rushed. I feel good that she will be our baby's doctor. Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband and daddy to be, Todd. I love you. Happy Wedding Anniversary to my friend Jodee and her husband Jim. |
